Get Rid of CommentLuv Flaw Once and For All
I am a dedicated fan of ‘CommentLuv’ in Wordpress blogs, you know, that plug-in that seeks out your last post and hangs a link to it on the end of the ‘Comment’ you are making on a blog: BUT, I really hate those blogs where the apostrophe is missing from the code and your ‘CommentLuv’ link has your name with two Esses on the end – see red text in example below:
“QUOTE”
Hey Tom!
This post is not just good sense, it is creative sense! Thanks for the heads up on this; if we are not enjoying our blogs, then what the heck ARE we there for?
I blog mainly for the interaction, and you have highlighted the things that create interaction – particularly #2, with your ‘liven it up’ ideas!

- The Cure:
The blog-owners cure for this is really easy – Open your WPress dashboard at Settings/CommentLuv and add the apostrophe after [name] as in the example below:
Change [name]s last blog post.. to read [name]‘s last blog post..
Then all your commentators sigs will be correct like this
Maybe Andy Bailey (Fiddyp.co.uk) of Comment Luv could edit his plugin to include the apostrophe as the default – after all, that would be grammatically correct! (What say Andy?)
- Update
Andy just fixed that with version V2.0b Release 11. It seems that this is not quite a simple problem because some versions of WordPress stall when you add the apostrophe. The cure is to update your CommentLuv or to put the ascii code instead, I.E.
[name]´s last blog post..
- Download CommentLuv
If you don’t already have this magic plugin, leap on over to Andy’s site and download it now, set it up, and add the apostrophe when you do the settings, so that you can get rid of CommentLuv Flaw once and for all.
- Update
Andy has revamped the CommentLuv Plugin and it now has lots of new features, like Click Stats, works on Blogger, etc., and the dreaded “Apostraphe Flaw” is now a thing of the past.

Weird! For some reason, adding the apostrophe right after it doesn’t work for me. In fact, it’s stated that “Enter the text you want displayed in the comment. (do NOT use single quotes ‘ or double quotes” )”.
I added it in the beginning and Andy later told me to delete it from the statement.
How did you get it right? Wait a minute, I don’t see the commentluv preview here…

Yan Shall Blogs last blog post..The Day I was Hacked…
Hi Yan!
I boobed – this was not activated on this blog, but is working well on biznz.org
I have solved the problem here with a little sneakiness.
In your dashboard, Go to Settings/CommentLuv and edit the code to read [name]& #180;s last blog post..[lastpost] (Remove the space between the ampersand and the hash symbol)
Putting the ascii code for the apostrophe seems to kill the JavaScript conflict problem OK!
This this topic is quite ‘can of worms’, because I can’t explain why it works on biznz.org, but not here – unless the fact that the other blog has a later version of WordPress installed.
Hi,
just thought I’d pop in and explain the pesky apostrophe problem. The previous version of commentluv (1.99) used php to add the message to the comment after it was submitted so I could pretty much use any text. Now however, the text is inserted by javascript and a single or double quote will break the line when the script is added to the header.
using & #180; is a great solution I think I will put that in the latest version.
to your other woes..
on here is version 1.92 which works after the comment has been made, the blog over on http://biznz.org is using the latest version.
it’s not showing up on http://biznz.org because the settings need to be changed for the comment form field id’s in the dashboard/settings/commentluv page
use:
commentform ID #awpsubmit_commentform_19
author name type: ID value: author_19
author url type: ID value: url_19
comment area type: ID value: comment_19
and it should display ok
for this blog to use the latest version, use the number 41 in place of 19 in the settings above.
hope this helps!

[...] is out, happily not because of bug fixes but more for feature compatibility and a fix for the apostrophe junkies. You can now use single apostrophes in the text of the output. [name]’s last blog post [...]
Hi Again Andy!
Thanks for the explanation. This is a real minefield because I find that wordPress usually interprets the ascii code and just show the apostrophe instead of the ampersand, etc..
It looks like your comment preview plugin is not working, it is getting an error for each keypress during comment entry.

Can anyone inform me, if i submit a post to a blog but i have no blog to my site, will i still get a link pointing to my website or does it only work if i have a blog myself, so many different variations or views what is the truth will commentluv help improve my link popularity?
@London Dentist
CommenLuv looks for a blog feed at the url you fill in, so if there is no blog there, there can be no link to a post. You do get a link to your url in the Name field, however!

great info just book marked for future reference
Great post Rhys, very informative. I have noticed that some of the commentluv links have a border, but some don’t, what’s that about?
Have you had any trouble with the actual hyperlink in commentluv? On my blog all of the words show up but no link?
Hi Tim -
On closer study I see a few other anomalies. They are to do with my theme conflicting with Ajaxed WordPress and having to be reinstalled. Depends when the post was written as to which comment protocol applies, I think. If you look at later or easrlier posts you will see that the comments are nested, and other differences.
Suggest you make sure you get the latest release from Andy and re-install. There is good help available on the Commentluv site.
Thanx for nice article. But I had difficult time navigating around your web site because I kept getting 502 bad gateway error. Just thought to let you know.
