Adobe Photoshop Tutorial

Stitch Photos Together

Open your first pic in PShop and resize (Image/Canvas Size) the canvas to double (200%) the existing width

Open the second pic and drag it’s layer thumbnail onto the first pics canvas (or copy and paste it) and position it roughly where they will join. Enter Quick Mask Mode (Q). Drag two vertical guides from the ruler bar and position them on a prominent feature within the picture overlap zone.

This shows us the width we can safely make our overlap fade-out area.

1. Select a rectangle to exactly cover the width, and,

2. drag the selection marquee to the exact edge of the pasted pictures layer. Select the Gradient(G) Tool (100% Opacity) and,

3. fill the selection from left to right to get a foreground to background fade-out mask. Go out of Quick Mask (Q) and then,

4. invert the selection (Ctr/Shift/I)
5. Press Delete to create the fade-out.

Now we can drag the RH pic until we achieve a perfect blend – notice the little tree (below) duplicated in the

1. LH pic, showing us we still need to move left and down for a
2. perfect match
3. There is still a faint join line on the cloud, so use a Smudge soft brush tool, 65px, opacity 30%, and rub lightly from right to left to hide the line

The last step is to Crop the picture to get rid of the blank spaces at the top and the right, and I have adjusted the (Image/Adjustments/Levels) median to 1.7 to make it look more like a sunny day.

The scene is cloud reflections on a Spring Tide in the Otara River,(NZ).
